Job Title: Account Director

Our in-house agency client is looking for an Account Director to serve as initial point of contact for all aligned-clients and projects. The Account Director recommends and advises clients on strategies, options and capabilities utilizing marketing best practices and channel knowledge. They must exhibit strong organization, management and prioritization skills, as well as outstanding client judgment, business acumen and the ability to work collaboratively with the project management team to achieve on-target materials to meet client needs.  In addition, the Account Director  will provide prioritization support to project management to ensure timely follow-through and accurate delivery. This person serves as the primary liaison between the in-house agency and the clients.

Please note this role will be on site in San Ramon, CA outside of the pandemic but begin remotely.

Account Director Responsibilities:
  • Account Management (70%)
    • Maintain the “big picture” for projects and client requirements ensuring that related deliverables are treated appropriately
    • Develop and maintain solid client relationships and encourage a collaborative approach with departmental team members
    • Provide strategic development and counsel to clients, specifically in the development of campaigns to solve clients’ marketing problems
    • Review full breadth of clients’ projects to recommend opportunities for effective streamlining of messages and/or projects
    • Collaborate on creative development and direction with client, strategy and creative teams
    • Collaborate with and ensure that internal teams and external agencies understand client requirements and perspective and that the final output aligns as appropriate
  • Project Management (20%)
    • Ensure client requests are on-target, on-time, on-budget, on-brand delivery and help client plan for future needs to meet business goals
    • Manage expectations with clients and departmental teams 
    • Collaborate with Senior Project Managers to ensure product delivers on client promises
    • Review products for quality, consistency, accuracy and advancement of the visual and verbal brand in design reviews, and ensure that consistent image/message is conveyed across the client’s products
    • Set expectations with clients, e.g., when and what they will see next as part of the creative process, budget expectations, solution response expectations, follow-up process and metrics expectations
  • Management & Leadership (10%)
    • Works harmoniously with others to get a job done and lead the team in a collaborative fashion
    • Give the team proper recognition and credit for team member contributions utilizing the recognition program.
    • Share client-related information and perspective with project team members to produce more effective creative solutions
    • Work to improve the agency’s performance by pursuing opportunities for continuous learning/feedback
    • Constructively help and coach others in their professional development through informal and formal feedback sessions as appropriate and by conducting regular performance reviews.
    • Demonstrate a real sense of caring for the team’s professional and personal well being
    • Exhibit a “can-do” approach and inspire and motivate associates to excel
    • Foster a team spirit that is reflective of their collective personalities
    • Nurture a culture that is fun to work in and help build an open creative community
    • Proactively address staff performance issues with Studio leadership
    • Allow team to work autonomously without micro-direction

Account Director Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in marketing, communications, advertising or business
  • Minimum of eight years of professional-level experience; at least two of which are in an account management role either in an external or internal agency
  • Oil & Gas/Energy experience required
  • Experience in executing complex communications campaigns across multiple channels
  • Leadership experience preferred 
  • Expertise in appropriate applications and tools such as Microsoft Office and Workfront software
  • Broad understanding of traditional and emerging channels
  • Advanced knowledge of marketing best practices in the B2B field
  • Ability to write and speak effectively and clearly articulate the team’s solutions in terms of the client’s business goals
  • Ability to lead with passion that energizes the team to over-deliver against expectations and results in high employee engagement and overall job satisfaction
  • Anticipates problems and sees how a problem and its solution will affect other projects, people or processes
  • Strong attention to detail so that work is on-time, on-budget and on-strategy
  • Demonstrates an executive presence
