Compensation: $175,000 - 190,000 per year
Our client seeks an Experience Design Director to spearhead the creation of impactful digital experiences across web and mobile platforms. The director will lead cross-functional teams, driving user-centered design strategies and ensuring high-quality product delivery. They will define design operations, foster collaboration with engineering and research teams, and shape cohesive user journeys. The position requires a leader to champion design system consistency, inspire innovation, and cultivate a positive team culture. This role requires expertise in the full product development lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
- Strong customer-centric approach: Demonstrates a deep understanding of customer needs and uses this to drive product strategy and confidently advocate for design decisions.
- Strategic design execution: Proven ability to translate platform visions into actionable strategies, balancing innovative projects with iterative updates.
- Design mentorship and elevation: Experience in enhancing design quality through strategic sprints, prototyping, and hands-on guidance, fostering a culture of design excellence.
- Cross-functional collaboration and influence: Ability to partner with diverse teams, inspiring trust and delivering cohesive, inclusive, and informed user experiences.
- Team leadership and development: Demonstrated success in leading product design teams, providing mentorship and support for professional growth.
- Craftsmanship and storytelling: Keen eye for design quality, ensuring polished and impactful user-centered designs, and strong narrative skills to connect design to broader business goals.
- End-to-end design process mastery: Expertise in driving the complete design lifecycle, from ideation to user testing, for seamless user experiences.
- Data-driven user advocacy: Ability to use data-driven insights to advocate for diverse user needs and preferences.
- Effective design communication: Highly skilled at communicating design concepts and rationale to stakeholders, promoting collaboration and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- Highly motivated, dependable, and detail-oriented, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, and distributed team environment.
- 8+ years of experience in Product Design or related fields.
- 6+ years of leadership experience, including hiring and developing senior managers and individual contributors.
- 8+ years of experience in cross-functional collaboration with product, engineering, design, content, and user research teams.
- Extensive experience shipping products across multiple platforms and regions, with a proven track record of coaching others.
- Bachelor's degree in Product Design, Interaction Design, Fine Arts, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Appreciation for and understanding of the collaboration between various design disciplines (interaction, visual, content, motion, and research).
- Expert proficiency in industry-standard design and research tools (e.g., Figma, Miro, user testing platforms).
- Strong portfolio demonstrating design process, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven team management and team-building skills, including mentoring, talent development, and craft improvement.
- Strong systems thinking skills, including experience with pattern definition, style guides, user testing, and prototyping.
- Solid understanding of software development and developer collaboration.
- Exceptional time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Superior communication and stakeholder influence skills.
- Experience in resource planning and staffing projects based on available skills.
- Broad understanding of design leadership systems, theories, and practices.
- Ability to set platform strategies, envision complex user interactions, and inspire teams to innovate.
- Ability to communicate complex concepts effectively to diverse audiences.
- 3+ years of experience working in a financial services industry
